"HOUSE OF ARCADIA" VIDEO - ANIMATING / by Jason Rivera

After countless hours of hand crafting characters for our video with Dani Vinokurov it was time to try animating them. We performed several quick tests to see if what Aria and I had in mind could actually work. Our experiments went well but since none of us had any experience with stop-motion animation we thought maybe we could use some guidance.

So we asked the amazing Josh Ostrander from the band Eastern Conference Champions to help us out. Josh had made an awesome stop-motion video for his band a few years back and he helped to get us started in the process. He was so generous to assist us with animating some of the scenes as well as with editing the footage down to something usable.

There is Aria doing some test animations. You can see some coral, a shark and waves in this shot.

I can’t recall what Aria said to make me laugh in this picture but it got me good. There’s a snippet of a painting by our resident artist Dani Vinokurov hanging behind us. And also a stuffed “Orphan” doll by my artist friend Eduardo hanging behind my head.

After throwing ourselves completely into making this video we’ve come away with a whole new appreciation for the patience and craft that it takes to animate in this style. We hope that you enjoy our humble attempt at it. Our new video and single “House of Arcadia” premieres on July 22nd. Thanks for tuning in.
